If you came to the first ever UK Bed and Breakfast Show last week in Bristol, you’ll know that we had a blast! If you missed it for whatever reason, no matter. I just want to take a moment to congratulate those who made the effort and came along. I feel that this will become an annual event and a “must do” on every B&B owner’s calendar, and here’s why…
Community – we all work more or less alone, in isolation and sometimes that can be a lonely and unsupportive environment. What I heard a lot of people saying at the event was that it was so great to come together, share ideas and learn, which brings me to my next point…
Learning – where can you learn how to professionally run a B&B business, especially from the marketing standpoint. I know there are courses for starting up, which deal mainly with the practicalities of opening a small hospitality business, but honestly, I don’t know anywhere in the UK where you can have access to experts who know about marketing and how it works.
And it’s all about marketing, all of it.
Talks were well attended and panel discussions were lively, covering topics such as how to manage your online reviews, how to stand out in a mediocre mass marketplace, and how to make social media work for you.
For me, it was an absolute joy to be able to meet and help so many people and I hope that I made a difference in some small way over the two days.
Plans are already afoot for next year’s event, so put the 24th and 25th February 2016 on your calendar now and make it a priority to get there no matter what. You won’t regret it.
